I came here because of the viral Pop-Tarts, and I have to say—they absolutely lived up to the hype. They were delicious, and the quiche was excellent too. Unfortunately, the atmosphere completely changed what should have been a great visit. We came with our kids, and from the moment we walked in, something felt off. I initially thought I might be imagining it, but then my son was simply looking at the cookie display (not touching the glass or being disruptive), and one of the employees kept giving him dirty looks. She looked back at him multiple times, and I was so confused that I finally asked, “Is there a problem?” Her response was, “I don’t know, is there a problem?” It was an unnecessarily confrontational interaction. There were also numerous signs telling customers to watch their kids, which, combined with the interaction we had, made it feel like families weren’t particularly welcome. Even my husband and my mom commented afterward that the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. One other surprise was being charged for water, which felt unusual. The food was genuinely fantastic, but the customer service and overall experience made us feel unwelcome. I hope this was just an off day

The monkey pies are worth a trip! One of the best pastries I’ve ever had. Think an oversized cinnamon rugalach…sooo good! The buttery, flaky, puff pastry and cinnamon combo is to die for, especially when popped in the microwave at home for a few seconds. Popped tarts were delicious as well- we had strawberry and blueberry and loved both. While not all of the staff is overly warm and fuzzy, they were efficient and the treats were so good that I don’t care too much about lack of smiles or joy from the team. Will definitely stop by anytime I’m passing through Tallahassee.

Really saddened today when I went by around 1230 pm and popped in to try the poptarts. The employee seemed gleeful in telling me I could only buy ONE per person, as I had asked for two. I don't see how it was a big deal (assuming because Ryan Gosling said they were good) to get two, as there was only two other people in the place and there were at least 20 in the window. I politely told her well, one is for me and one for my friend who couldn't make it here, so that is one per person and she said there would be no exceptions. Bewildered, I told her thanks and have a good day and left. You see, my friend, who has cancer and finally feels well enough to eat and travel, wanted to try one and I was getting them for our trip so she could really enjoy the start of it. I wanted to enjoy that moment with her: just two friends who have been thru the ringer, trying out (the seemingly over hyped) poptarts together before heading out on a road trip, when she finally can enjoy a little food. I can factually say I will not be back and I will tell anyone with a pulse to avoid this place. Had stuff here before and it was dry (as nearby folks in other businesses attested to, and said The Cake Shop

I purchased 4 Boston Cream cupcakes. I went by what was suggested by a FB recommendation for Boston Cream Pie. I was extremely disappointed. It tasted like yellow box cake mix, box pudding and Pillsbury frosting. The other thing was that I was told The ladies room was broken. I'm sorry I call BS, where did their employees go to the bathroom? If your restaurant you need to have a restroom that's operational for your patrons, it's the law. That's why I gave it to one star for atmosphere. I had such high hopes since there were reviews about Pop-Tarts and how wonderful this place was and I found it to be anything but wonderful.

(Please note: I’ve never left a poor review, …especially for a small/local business). We recently moved back to Tallahassee, as this is my hometown. I was so excited to be able to frequent The Cake Shop again, as it’s been my family’s favorite for years. What an horrible mistake…….Both cakes not only looked horrendous, the icing tasted like a greasy mix of “barely sweetened crisco-butter.As well, I ordered the peanut-butter chocolate cake” and it had no peanut butter! Of course, I phoned immediately after opening the boxes and was told to send an email! (Needless to say, I did not use either cake and rushed to Publix for help). That was an expensive and stressful lesson. Very disappointed.
